Sermon notes
He began by explaining that there are words in Scripture that appear repeatedly, and when they do, they demand our attention. One such word is “better.”
Apostle drew our attention to several passages in Hebrews where this word appears prominently:
• Hebrews 1:4 • Hebrews 7:22 • Hebrews 8:6 • Hebrews 9:23 • Hebrews 12:2
The book of Hebrews seeks to answer one question once and for all: Who is Jesus?
- In Hebrews 1:1–5, Jesus is revealed as the Creator of the world, setting Him apart from all creation. - Hebrews 7:23–25 shows us that the Priest over our altar has an unchangeable priesthood. This means we are irrevocably blessed and un-cursable.
- We must believe in the strange acts of God. (Hebrews 8:2; Hebrews 10:12–14)
- Jesus is greater than Moses. (Hebrews 3:1–3; John 6:32)
How does this lead to walking on water?
▫️ In Matthew 14:28, Jesus walked on water to reveal His glory to His disciples.
▫️In Mark 6:48, we see that in every miracle of Jesus, there is an invitation into the supernatural.
▫️Many Christians do not struggle with believing that God can do all things. The real challenge is walking on water when Christ beckons you to come. (Matthew 14:22–29)
▫️We must realize that the very thing drowning others can become your platform.
▫️The Ebenezer theology reminds us that God can help in dramatic, supernatural, and sudden ways.
▫️David did not believe it was normal for someone who was anointed to fail. (Psalm 37:17; Romans 8:28; Psalm 23:4–5; Psalm 20:7–8)
▫️When there is supernatural advantage, you must learn to see with prophetic vision.
▫️Mark 16:18 teaches us to respond rightly to prophecy. If God says He will help you, embrace His help.
As a believer, it is possible to drown in the presence of Jesus. The issue is not the because His presence is absent, but because of a shaken conviction. If God said go, then go.
