The Mentality of the Pilgrims
Summary
Because not everybody is available for God to use, and not everyone carries the mentality of the pilgrims who walked fully with God in their time.
Sermon notes
In service yesterday, we continued our teaching series on Purpose with a powerful sermon titled “Unstoppable Move of God.” 🔥
Apostle opened with a statement that settled heavily in our hearts:
“Sometimes, there is a shortage of men.”
And why is that?
Because not everybody is available for God to use, and not everyone carries the mentality of the pilgrims who walked fully with God in their time.
Anchoring the teaching in Hebrews 12:1, Apostle explained what it truly means to run a race with eternal consciousness in a world designed to make people forget they are even running.
Many people are in a race and do not know it.
And in the spiritual race, it is easy to become distracted and entangled by the things of this world.
We were reminded that the joy set before Jesus was what He saw beyond the Cross. He lived with eternity in view, and this is the ultimate way to live a life of purpose. ✨
Apostle also taught that there is an irony to purpose: the people who live most conscious of eternity are often the same people Heaven gives grace to truly possess and steward this present life.
Here are Some Major Points To Note ✍🏻
📍 Live with Eternal Consciousness * We are to live with the consciousness that Jesus is coming again. No matter the success or wealth acquired on earth, this world is not our final destination.
📍 Your Earthly Life Is Temporary * Our lives on earth are a layover to eternity. We must not become distracted by temporary activities and pursuits.
📍 Carry the Mindset of a Pilgrim * Jacob called his days on earth a pilgrimage, even while prospering in Egypt (Genesis 47:8). * For Jacob and Joseph to insist their bones not remain in Egypt revealed their consciousness of a Kingdom whose builder is God.
📍 Purpose Should Influence Every Area of Life * The true heroes of faith are people who allowed purpose shape their decisions, actions, and priorities. * Eternal consciousness affects how we live, build, serve, and lead.
📍 Prosperity Is Not the Final Goal * You may build businesses, advance in career, and care for family, but ultimately, we are looking for a city whose builder is the Lord.
📍 Alignment Matters * All things work together for good for those aligned with God’s purpose. * We do not merely ask God to bless what we are doing; we align ourselves with what God is already blessing.
📍 Do Not Settle for Lesser Things * You miss the language of purpose when you become consumed by self-importance or earthly distractions. * Refuse to settle for temporary things when God is calling you into something greater.
📍 Purpose Must Be Bigger Than Money * Some people have not yet learned what it means to commit to something greater than financial gain. * When wealthy men still call themselves pilgrims, it reveals they understand eternity.
In Conclusion, if all our hopes and treasures are tied only to this life, then we are of all men most miserable (1 Corinthians 15:19).
If purpose truly exists, then one day we will give account for how faithfully we lived it out.
And ultimately, may our lives be worthy of hearing: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” ❤️
