Sermon notes
📌Begin with the consciousness of the gospel: The gospel is preached to sinners and taught to believers. (Romans 5:17).
He made us understand that the only qualifier for salvation is faith in Jesus Christ. It takes depth of understanding to truly believe that your standing with God is by grace alone.
When this understanding is lacking, we may erroneously begin to “pray for grace,”....
forgetting that grace is already given. (Galatians 3:1–3)
📌 It is possible for us to witness God’s faithfulness and still struggle with insecurity. But, we should remember that God always shows up.
📌 Brokenness is central to devotion. The most important part of your daily devotion is brokenness. Take yourself there daily and remain until you “hit a gusher.” (Psalms 51:17)
God does not despise a broken and contrite heart.
The ultimate secret of devotion is recognizing your insufficiency. If you are self-sufficient, no one can help you, not even God.
To be poor in spirit is to look at yourself and acknowledge your need for God. You must consciously guard and prioritize the posture of your heart (Proverbs 4:23).
📌Change: Anytime you come before God, His presence will confront some things that you ought to drop off.
Don't harden your heart to hold what God is telling you to let go.
How to humble ourselves before God:
📌Fasting: Fasting is a demonstration of humility. It reorders your priorities. The purpose is to deliberately withhold yourself from things you can afford.
During fasting, resist distractions such as excessive social media and entertainment (Psalm 35:13).
You are not hungry because you love bread; you are hungry because you choose God.
Your ultimate Ebenezer is offering yourself as a living sacrifice on God’s altar.
📌 Worship: Worship more. Learn to sing to the Lord. Those who worship deeply do not lose battles easily.
