At midweek service on wednesday, we received the ministry of Apostle @pst_iren as he taught oh the topic “The Ironic Disadvantages of Excellence” ✨
He highlighted that there are things we experience that changes the quality and expectation of your life forever. At a foundational level in every aspect of our lives, excellence is a very good thing.
📍 What do we do when our excellence or things we regard as excellence is subconsciously affecting our devotion and we don’t see it?
Here are key points to note:
➔ When we come to a point where our prayer life is powered by electricity and prayer aids, and we cannot pray, we must realize the change.
➔ Worship is getting costly. We don’t realise that our service programming is compensating for our distracted lifestyle.
➔ If we don’t master the boredom of consistent devotion, we will never be happy with our walk with God.
➔ Due to our constant use of worship aids, we have distracted ourselves from the voice of God. There is too much going on to hear him.
🔥A hack for devotion: Find a way to reset and come back to the normal setting of simplicity. Many times, Revival is the restoration of simplicity.
How to Restore Simplicity to Your Devotional Life. ➔ The Discipline of Repetition. If a sermon really blessed you, stay there. Dont listen to another one yet. Re-listen for a good number of times before you move. Repetition is not the lack of words, it is the key to persuasion. One of the proof that you are touching God is simplicity of your devotion.
Take note of the people who think their walk with God is too mature for daily devotion. They struggle with consistency. When simple things bless you, you’re growing. Embrace the boredom of consistency.
➔ By Gratitude. Sophisticated people are sometimes ungrateful and competitive; always looking for the next thing and not fully enjoying at God has done. When you’re grateful, there are many things people gloss over that you stay on and heaven always remembers. A culture of gratitude preserves simplicity.
➔ By Staying. You will miss many notable things in your life, if you don’t know how to sit with God for hours. The most important quality of spirit that helps you pick information from the other side is stillness. If you don’t know how to be still, your life is under attack.
➔ Make God the Focus. As long as he remains the focus your life remains simple and at the bottom like. When you look at others, you lose gratitude. Keep Christ as the focus.
➔ Be a Doer. Don’t just acquire knowledge, be a doer.
➔ In worship, focus on substance. Make sure the song lyrics make sense and that’s what you’re responding to. Heaven will always pay attention to the revelation of God’s word and Christ is the revelation of God.
