As we continued our teaching series for the month, Sunday’s sermon was packed with insight as our Apostle taught on the topic “Fervent in Spirit.”
He began from Romans 12:11, explaining that fervour is not a denominational preference but a non-negotiable for everyone who is in Christ.
He also drew lessons from the ongoing FIFA World Cup, referencing 1 Corinthians 9:24. If athletes can train consistently for decades for an earthly prize, how much more should we, whose reward is eternal?

📍 Fervour is contagious and measurable. It is non-negotiable for every Christian.
📍 Mark 16:17 was not a prayer but an instruction for every believer.
📍 The spirit is elastic. We can grow in our capacity to pray and remain in prayer.
📍 Leviticus 9:24 shows us that although the fire on the altar came from God, it was the priests’ responsibility to keep it burning. Likewise, it is our responsibility to maintain the fire on our altar.
📍 If you notice your fire is growing dim, increase the intensity. Go on retreats. Pray more. Ensure your fire does not go out.
📍 Philippians 3:3 reminds us not only of our identity in Christ but also that fervour is part of our collective identity as a church.
📍 Consecration is reflected both in the things you do and the things you refuse to compromise.
📍 In Jeremiah 20:9, Jeremiah could not suppress the fire within him but yielded to it and continued the work of ministry.
📍 One notable red flag and sign of backsliding is when you no longer speak boldly about the Gospel of Christ.
📍 Your generosity is one of the greatest expressions of your fervour.
📍 Never lose your wonder. Protect your order.
Still teaching from Romans 12:11, Apostle Iren explained that diligence is external, while fervour is internal. Our external priorities often reveal the true condition of our hearts.
Devotion keeps our hearts soft and sensitive to God’s Word.
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS TO ASK REGULARLY
📍 What does your devotional structure look like? You must have both a when and a where for prayer.
📍 Beyond your regular devotional routine, what do you do to sustain the fire? Do you fast? Do you go on retreats? If you currently do nothing outside your daily devotion, start something.
📍 Who are the people who help you stay on fire? Write down their names, let them know the impact they have had on your life, and encourage those relationships.
📍 Who are the people who resurrect the dead man in you? Conversely, who are the people who discourage the fervent man in you? Identify them and make the necessary adjustments.
Our devotional life is vital, and we must treat it with the importance it deserves. Make your morning devotion sacrosanct. When you don’t feel like praying, pray anyway. Every time you do, you’re breaking an unhealthy pattern.
Oftentimes, it isn’t a discipline issue—it is a loyalty issue.
What are you loyal to?
Watch your patterns. Break unhealthy ones. Build godly ones.
