Fervent in Service

Summary

Picture this. You work at a train station and are responsible for controlling traffic. There is a problem. One of the trains has lost control and is headed towards a village where it will kill 1,000 people. If nothing is done, it will kill men, women, and children. If you change the tracks, there is a baby on the other track.

What would you do? πŸ€”

Sermon notes

Here's a thought experiment for you to ponder.

In yesterday's service, our dear Apostle, @pst_iren, taught on the topic, "Fervent in Service" (Romans 12:11).

He began by stating that the thought experiment above typifies the Gospel. When God sacrificed His own Son for you to have eternal life, He did not hold back. You cannot truly understand what Christianity is about until you deeply reflect on John 3:16.

Here are a few things to note:

πŸ“ You are either fervent in service or an imposter. There is no middle ground.

πŸ“ God is asking that you give your life in devotion to the One who gave His life for you.

πŸ“ There is no volunteer in God's workforce. If He paid for your life with the blood of His Son, He owns you. He gets to decide your priorities.

2 SCRIPTURES THAT TYPIFY YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD πŸ“Œ Galatians 2:20 πŸ“Œ 1 Corinthians 6:9-20

πŸ“ Doulos is a Greek word that translates to "bondservant" or "love slave". It was used to depict the disciples of Christ. Not in an oppressive way, but because of the love and sacrifice of Jesus in dying our death, He gets to tell us what to do. (Romans 1:1, Philippians 1:1, Titus 1:1, James 1:1, Romans 10:9).

πŸ“ God is many things to us, but you must realise that He is also Master and Shepherd.

πŸ“ God must be able to make you do things for Him.

πŸ“ You don't prove your loyalty to God by what you do, but by what you should have done that you choose not to do because of Him.

πŸ“ Part of God's guidance is character guidance.

ASPECTS OF YOUR LIFE THAT MUST RADICALLY AND IMMEDIATELY IMPROVE

πŸ“Œ Observe the Sabbath day and keep it holy as commanded. (Exodus 24:12, Exodus 20:8).

πŸ“Œ Represent Him boldly. (Romans 1:16).

πŸ“Œ Submit to the final authority of Christ and His Church.

πŸ“Œ Serve the Church with your gifts.

πŸ“Œ Serve God through sacrificial generosity.

We must realise that there is only one way to serve God, and it is to serve Him with passion. (Luke 22:44).

As we go into the week, let us reflect on this sermon and think of areas where we can improve ourselves to better serve God and His agenda on the earth.
